March 2007
We arrived in Jingdezhen on March 13th to start the formula feeding project. We met with the director of the orphanage and were given a tour of the facility. We were impressed with the quality of the orphanage staff and believe that they sincerely have the children's best interests at heart.
The foster parents brought the children to the orphanage, and we met with each family one at a time. The Jingdezhen babies are so cute! We weighed and measured each child, as we will do this each time we visit. This regular monitoring is how we help insure that the formula is being used properly and each child is getting the nutrition they need. After measurement, we gave each family enough milk powder for a month and instructions on how to use.

The current orphanage is in a crowded part of downtown Jingdezhen and is starting to show its age. After lunch, we were taken to a beautiful location on the outskirts of the city where they are beginning the site preparation for a new orphanage. The local Director of Civil Affairs explained to us that they will need to find additional funding sources to complete the new facility. We will be assisting them by preparing an informational proposal in English that can be submitted to anyone interested in helping.

Afterwards, we were able to visit a preserved historical site and observe craftsmen making authentic porcelain china as they have made it for many hundreds of years.
