June 8, 2008 The May 12th Sichuan earthquake has been a serious source of pain and suffering for thousands of Chinese families. What has been amazing is to see how the country has responded with an out pouring of love and resources for the quake victims and a notable surge in nationalism. "Love China" bumper stickers are everywhere. As the dust settles and people's attentions turn elsewhere there will be many long term wounds to heal. We have been asked by government officials if we would consider caring for children who have been orphaned by the quake. This is something that we are willing and prepared to do as the needs become apparent. Update on the "healing home" project. The new Beijing location is still under renovation and has experienced some delays. However, we are beginning anyway here Qingyundian. The first child, Adam, arrived yesterday. Next week a second child who is in need of heart surgery will arrive. Since our last newsletter two kids have been adopted. Andrea by a local family and Libi went to the States. Our new kids this time are Noah, Elise and Adrian. Faith and Annie had cleft palate surgery. Another notable miracle that we are thankful for ¨C Lizhong had a miraculous recovery and does not need surgery for hydrocephalus. Hey check out our little Van Gogh's. The children's pictures made it to an art exhibit.
