Sixty percent of China’s orphanages are concentrated in the eight southernmost provinces of China. We would like to do more for the many children and orphanages in the south, but our location in Beijing limits our ability to help. (It is approximately the same distance from Beijing to Guangzhou as it is from New York City to Tampa, Florida.) Building on our years of proven experience in Beijing, we have expanded our efforts geographically by opening a branch of New Day Foster Home in Guangzhou in southern China.
We are in the process of moving to a new facility only 10 minutes away from the best and largest children’s hospital in south China. While we are no longer able to continue providing longer-term foster care at this time, there are still many children in need of medical intervention, and we want to do all we can to help.
From our new location, we will focus on providing surgeries and supporting our partner orphanages in securing the best medical care possible for their children. We are also exploring other ways to help as we continue to adapt to the new environment here in this region.
While we will certainly miss not being able to share in the children's day-to-day lives as we have done in the past, our hope is that by limiting our focus to the shorter time of critical medical need, we will be able to help even more children along their journey to life, health and family.
