New Day Volunteer Services

A wise teacher yearns beyond the small world of a classroom to create for her students an occasion to discover mystery and meaning. Coming to China to serve others makes that possibility considerably more likely. Serving as English teachers or as care-givers to special needs infants and toddlers at New Day, the excitement is palpable. In a place where few syllables sound familiar, hearts transcend all barriers.

New Day is located in the small farming village of Qingyundian, on the outskirts of Beijing. Most villagers live in very simple homes without indoor plumbing or running water.

In the spring of 2006, we began the Pearl Project, which reaches out to the neediest families in our community. Our goal is to help restore dignity and hope to families who have a difficult time making ends meet. We help provide home repairs, food, and money to cover medical and schooling costs for four local families. As a volunteer at New Day, you can visit these families in their homes, delivering needed supplies and also offering helping them to improve their living conditions.
